Welcome back to Comic-Con week! Being the center of the geek yearly calendar, you can taste the excitement in the air.  All the big reveals, the new content, meeting your favorite creators, and of course getting to see your favorite characters brought to life by the marvelous people who take part in costume play! Cosplay, as it’s now come to be known, has grown in popularity over the years, once being reserved for the die hard fan or booth stand trying to sell something. These days however the casual fan now has the materials and outlet to put together their own living embodiment of their favorite characters from anime, video games, and big blockbuster movies.  Here to talk with us today on some of the do’s and don’ts and the future of cosplaying is the actress, the model, the woman behind the mask: Ms. Kimberly Moore!

Pure Nerd Nip: Kimberly, why don’t you tell us a little bit about yourself and how life led to you dressing up as batman villains at comic book conventions?
Kimberly Moore: I am an actress, model, singer and dancer and have been cosplaying since 2009. I have cosplayed Luigi, Tails, Harley Quinn, Black Cat, Leeloo, American Dream, Ms. Marvel, Jessica Rabbit, TDRK Catwoman and Sue Storm. When I cosplay I like to put my own costumes together and make my own version of the character or make an exact costume of the character rather than buy a store bought costume. I love going to conventions and I try to go to as many as I can. Acting and modeling is my life, it makes me very happy and I want to share it with the whole world!

Happy Independence day everyone! Hope you enjoy your families, and bbq’s, and freedom. As dusk approaches please be safe with your fireworks and alcohol (or don’t i suppose blowing your arm off or setting yourself on fire is part of your freedom as an American). Either way; if you can’t make it out to an organized event or actually abide by your states fireworks laws, enjoy this set I shot last night. Happy 4th!

Ultimate Spider-Man

It seems like every week I stumble across some new and awesome cartoon; this weeks being the Ultimate Spiderman. It first aired April 1 on DisneyXD, so I know I’m a bit late to the game on this one; but I was only exposed to it after a Kevin Smith interview with the creator/writer team on the show: Man Of Action (Ben 10, Generator Rex). Spidey is getting some major comic heavyweight treatment with Paul Dini and Jeph Loeb as EP’s, animation cred from Joe Quesada, and cameos in every episode from Stan “the man” Lee (who plays the school janitor of all things)! Suffice it to say that even out of the gate this isn’t your parents Spiderman!

This weekend marked the passing of yet another year for the Philadelphia Comic Con.  Once a con plagued by terrible under-attendance and being kinda under-whelming in general, I must say has shown up this year in quite a grand fashion! Unlike San Diego, where everyone makes their big announcements and the entire con has shifted focus from comics to general pop culture, Philadelphia Wizard World  contains not a single gaming console, major network, or Sony branded anything on the floor.  You won’t find 300 person long lines for swag giveaways at the G4 booth, and i find that quite refreshing.  Just comics, toys/t-shirts sporting comics, the creators of said comics, and the fans that love comics; what can i say it’s a freaking comic convention.  This con is perfectly suited to it’s size. Is the floor crowded? Yes. Claustrophobicly so? No. Are there lines to get into the panels? Yes. Is anybody left out because the room was full? No. This was really a joy to be at. Also because there’s no big spoiler alerts, new announcements, or exclusive toy lines to write about; figured I’d just give you some pictorial love of the panels I attended along with some of my favorite quotes from each!
