In what may be the best use of making a hip-hop music video as a parody of hip-hop music videos (or at least the best since On A Boat), PSY’s “Gangnam Style” is up to almost 9 million views on youtube.

I found this article thanks to Gawker that dug up a possible explanation on Reddit.

From what I understand, Gangnam is the fancy schmancy rich part of Seoul. The video is making light of him singing about what a classy dude he is while screaming at yoga butts and dancing in garages and junk.

The meta hip hop music video is nothing new, I’ve even worked on one or two; but this one takes the cake! Every setup is brilliantly hilarious, having the first featured dancer being a ten year old boy had me rolling on the floor (and then wanting to hire him to perform at my next birthday). The intrusiveness of dancing on a tennis court or tanning in a kids playground is genius; everything about this video just works.

Is it a great song?
No.

Have I watched it a half dozen times at this point?
Hell yes.

I hope you get the same pure joy in watching this as I did; and I know for a fact my wife is going to love when I start yelling at her butt while she does yoga!

Stay Nerdy My Friends!
